Feeding Mechanical Pets
Have you been wondering what "Mechanical Bits" are, and what you can feed to your Mechanical pets? The information here comes via email from Tom, a.k.a. Pisanti, Gnome Hunter with the guild Wodens Hubris - Argent Dawn.
Apparently these are engineering parts, meaning there's good synergy with the engineering profession and Mechanical pets.
It appears that (as you might expect) the level of the engineering parts that can be consumed correlates to the level of the pet. Tom's list is:
Handful of copper bolts
Bronze Tube
Bronze Framework
Whirring Bronze Gizmo
Silver Contact
Iron Strut
Gold Power Core
Mithril Casing
Unstable Trigger
Truesilver Transformer
Thorium Widget
Thorium Tube
Fel Iron Bolts
Fel Iron Casing
Adamantite Frame
Pet Level 100
Cobalt bolts
Ghost Iron bolts
It'll be interesting if the community here can build on this list. Are there any vendor items (from engineering suppliers?) that can be used as food?

Aww, that's an adorable mechanic! Annoying for non-engineers, but at least bolts tend to go cheaply.

Yeah, that's why I'm wondering if there are any easy-to-buy eng. items from vendors that can be used.

Re: Feeding Mechanical Pets
There certainly have been vendors that sold bolts in the past, especially at lower levels. I hope there are some in Legion as well, since that would help keep the supply and accessibility up.

Re: Feeding Mechanical Pets
Is food really going to be important?
I don't think I've gotten specific pet food for any of my pets in years now.
Are they changing this aspect with Legion?

Not directly but pet healing is so poor now that some players are returning to using food to supplement it.

Re: Feeding Mechanical Pets
ahhh, good to know, thank-you.
guess I'll have to resort to carrying around a bit of extra food then.

Did they change it so you can feed them in combat? Otherwise I don't see how feeding pets is anymore useful then it has been.

I could see it coming in handy when questing. You go out to some area and end up picking up more mobs than you intended. You get 'em all down, but Fluffy is low health and Mend Pet is still on cooldown. Feeding Fluffy would be a good and helpful thing to get his health back up before the mobs respawn or a patrol ambles into aggro radius.

My T-Rex Fluffy (that's really his name) approves this message. I still feed my pets to heal them TBH. Especially in dungeons /raids.

Re: Feeding Mechanical Pets
Yeah.....I'd rather they just fix the heal or buff it, put pet HP/resistance back where it was, or something, anything really would be nice at this point. I raid, in Heroic and Mythic, Feed Pet doesn't work in combat so I'm still having to rez my pet a few times in fights with large AoE/splash/target dmg. Also the Artifact solo content and questing is going to suck as my pet can't tank to save my life, I have a 730 iLevel atm and I'm still dreading it. So, yeah....

My pet had been doing fine in exploring/PvE content...and then I did PvP last night. Any kind of AoE and my pet crumpled like a sack.

Re: Feeding Mechanical Pets
There was a reason our pets had been made immune (or near to) to many types of damage and that was because of the sheer lack or survivability. My pet dies more in a single play sitting then it did in the entire last two expansions. Mend pet is a joke, Spirit mend is to...And I am BM...I rely on my pet and it's dead, rez...5-10sec later...dead...rez, repeat. Mend pet is part of my rotation and that's pretty sad!
I can't remember when the last time I used Feed pet...every sweep I am surprised that ability is still there. If it could be used in combat then I would most likely make use of it...but sacrifising bag space for food for each pets preference...not worth it for a few extra casts of mend pet or a bandage.
ATM, I've been keeping my pets in tank spec because it's the only spec they have a remote chance of surviving any sort of encounter (involving more then a single target) right now. sacrifice dps for survivability or go Ferocity and spend most of the fight reviving my pet...

I feel like this in a raid:
I'm shooting my pet at a boss more than I'm auto shotting.

Any idea what to feed your mechanical pet when Ghost Iron Bolts are too low level? I am now level 119.

I thought gnome parts would work
Sargman (Void Elf) Terokkar
Serkrun (Orc) Dentarg
Untamabull (Tauren) Area 52
Sargmar (Blood Elf) Alexstrasza
If you're taking my posts 100% seriously, you're probably 150% too serious to read them.

Insulated Wiring does count as mechanical pet food, but its too low level for 120 pets. The blasting caps do not. I talked about this a bit in the Feeding Pets-food on the action bar thread.
Is there anything that blacksmiths make that might work?
